Hugh is a geologist by profession so has a deep understanding & love of our local stone, Taranaki andesite.
The Taranaki andesite he uses are mostly boulders which have flowed down from the mountain.
The shape, size, colour & texture of the rock is variable.
Size can vary from pebbles we find on the beach to large heavy stones.
Colours vary too & it is possible to find pink, brown or black & absolutely all shades of grey.
The galleries below show Hugh's works in progress & completion.
