touching base with our natural world

22/5/2015

It's been ages since I last went for a walk in the bush & this afternoon, on a whim & because it was sunny & warm, I decided it would be nice to have a bit of a wander.
It was waaaaaay better than nice, it always is, but the surprise today was the abundance of gorgeous fungi.
It's been wet over the last month, nothing unexpected in that, however it's also been warm, no complaints from me about that either !
And with that combination comes the fungi. . . .
looking closely there are 3 different kinds of smaller fungi around this one !
something didn't like this enough to eat it all
aren't they astounding !
Unfortunately I have very little idea about fungi so these shall remain nameless for now & I'm finding the websites I've been looking at tonight are just confusing me so next time I'm at the library I'll find a book or two to read.
And below is a gallery of images, some from the gully & some from the main bush, just because they are pretty & this is a wonderful place to be !
almost the last bumblebee of the season I'd say
poroporo (solanum aviculare)
close up of the fruit. we had just been watching tauhou (waxeyes) feeding on them.
kohekohe (dysoxylum spectabile) flowers arise directly from the trunk of the tree

I wouldn't normally do this but I wanted to make my niece giggle !
